Whether you want to discover new music, access your existing favorites or keep your party guests entertained, these online radio stations and music streaming services are for you. The traditional radio station format involves a human DJ making the playlist decisions, often in real time. Self-directed streaming services leave the playlist decision-making up to you. Some services are a blend of these experiences. This collection of the best music streaming services and online radio stations has something for everyone.

Prime Stations: Worth Another Look
When Prime Stations (a feature of Prime Music, which is a benefit of Amazon Prime membership—if you’re not currently a member, you can click here for a free trial ) first popped up in the Amazon Music Store, I was underwhelmed. It seemed like a “Me, too!” maneuver on Amazon’s part, an attempt to mimic the Stations functionality of streaming services like Pandora and iHeartRadio, but the variety and functionality of Prime Stations were much more limited.

This week, an online discussion prompted me to revisit Prime Stations. I learned they’ve improved a LOT. To check it out yourself, go to the Prime Music page on the Amazon site and click the Stations link (currently located in the left-hand sidebar, under the Browse Prime Music heading).

Note that this will open a new tab and load your Amazon Music Library, which requires the Flash plugin to offer full playback controls and functionality. I am very much anti-Flash, because of its massive security holes , but even though I have Flash disabled in all my browsers I am still able to view Prime Station listings, as well as the rest of my library in my Amazon Music Library. I only open Amazon Music Library in the browser to look up tracks, albums, artists, playlists and now, stations.
